Illegal alien charged with cocaine trafficking
By Eric Kopp, Okeechobee News

An Okeechobee man was arrested and charged after he reportedly sold approximately 118 grams of suspected cocaine to an undercover law enforcement officer during a controlled buy.

Rodiver Gomez Vazquez, 21, N.E. Eighth St., was arrested June 12 and charged with trafficking in cocaine. He was booked into the Okeechobee County Jail under a bond of $100,000.

According to an arrest report by the Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force, the undercover officer met with Vazquez and another man in the parking lot of a local convenience store on S.R. 70 East. The report states that Vazquez handed the officer a Cheeto’s bag, which contained four smaller bags. The smaller bags, continued the report, were tied and contained a white powder.

The undercover officer weighed the powder on a set of digital scales and then reportedly paid Vazquez $2,800.

The officer then left the store and met up with an agent from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The agent field tested the powder. The test indicated a positive result for the presence of cocaine.

Vazquez was arrested later at the Okeechobee County Sheriff’ s Office.

The report states that Vazquez is in the United States illegally.
