Not being the wife of a senator makes her special, but her marriage to a US citizen allows her to stay. I can marry any male and bring him to the US or the EU. It's called human rights. My human right is to be able to keep my 2 passports without having to fear losing one.
    Michelle,

Maybe you should study immigration law a little closer before you go spouting about stuff in which you are obviously illiterate. One of the biggest immigration frauds is the "marriage = Green Card" scam.

Michelle - you may want to check out the message boards at matt.org

I think you will find like-minded people there, claiming they want to "solve" immigration on the surface but truly want an open borders socialist country.

There're sham marriages and that's a disgrace. But there're also real marriages, like Nicholas_USA here on ALIPAC. He's married to a US citizen, is a resident now, and wants to become an American citizen. I wish him all the best and hope he's smart enough to keep his Dutch passport too and chooses dual citizenship like I did.

Not everyone that marries a US citizen is scam.

Maybe I'm missing something, but wasn't the senator's wife already under a deportation order when she married? If so, she was already a felonist prior to her marriage. Returning the money doesn't cancel out an armed robbery charge, so why should marriage cancel out a deportation order? Any notice, all pro-illegal immigrant advocates choose to completely ignore the rule of law when making thier argument.

Whoa - stop the train right here - I don't believe Nicholas is currently residing in the United States illegally. Big difference, Michelle! Once again, you chose to completely ignore the rule of law in your argument.

Nicholas is here legally, but the senator's wife became legal at the moment she married. Being here illeally is a misdemeanor, perhaps even an infraction, but certainly not a felony.

Your comparison to return money after a robbery makes no sense

You're missing my point, she couldn't become legal the moment she married because she was under a court ordered deportation order. I don't believe marriage voids a court ordered deportation order. Furthermore, don't those who fail to honor their deporation order become felonist fugitives?

Sorry, it makes sense to me. A crime cannot be forgiven by simply doing something "you" think lessens the damage because the action does not clear you with the judicial system. She was under a deportation order, marriage does not automatically reverse the federal court order for her removal. She would have to petition the court for consideration of removal of the deportation order. True, she could use the marriage in her defense, but it's not an automatic.

Ok, I hear you. I got your point.
Just as 2 wrongs don't make a right, the same goes with " a good thing doesn't reverse a bad thing " .

She had to ask court to remove her deportation order, instead of escaping authorities. You are right, I was wrong.

I don't know if it's a felony if you stay here illegally after a court issued a deportation order. I don't know too much about immigration laws. You know more about immigration, but I bet I speak more languages. We all have our shortcomings
