My husband and I moved out of California last year after 3 job lay offs. We knew it was bad with the last lay off and decided to look out of state for employment. We had to move due to the recession, the state being broke, not enough jobs for those unemployed. Words can't express my anger at reading this news today...
Just how is California planning on paying for the 40 million a year to fund this when the state is broke? This is crazy and I am now glad I moved to another state and won't be forced to pay for these law breakers.
My son came with us as he couldn't find a job either and he has a degree. They were taking bilingual workers over him..
Leave California and let the illegals have it...Muy Beuno Moonbeam...What part of illegal don't you understand?

We have to get rid of the Democrats. They will always support illegal aliens. Do not forget, let's vote Obama out in 2012.

It says they will get Cal-Grants. Having a student in college I know for a fact that you cannot get a Cal-Grant until you apply for your FAFSA. FAFSA requires a social security number and tax records for the parents.
There are situations where after FAFSA denies a student, the Universities can declare the student Independent and get the student their FAFSA and University Grants. But the key is that as of now you cannot get a Cal-Grant or University Grants until you first go through FAFSA (The Federal Government).

The latest on California politics and government

Jerry Brown signs California Dream Act
Gov. Jerry Brown today signed legislation allowing undocumented immigrant college students to receive public financial aid, marking California's relatively liberal ground in a bitter row over immigration nationwide.
The California Dream Act allows access to public financial aid, including Cal Grants, for undocumented students who came to the country before turning 16 and attended California high schools. Those students already are eligible for in-state tuition, and Brown in July signed a companion measure affording them access to private financial aid.
"Going to college is a dream that promises intellectual excitement and creative thinking. The Dream Act benefits us all by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and the lives of all of us," Brown said in a prepared statement.
Brown, a Democrat, supported the act during last year's gubernatorial campaign, and his signature was all but certain. He had negotiated amendments to the bill, Assembly Bill 131, to reduce costs, excluding graduates of technical and adult schools and delaying implementation until January 2013.
The bill, by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, was passed by lawmakers on partisan lines. Democrats said it would result in a more educated population. Republicans said awarding scholarships to undocumented students would encourage illegal immigration, and they objected to the cost.
The program's expansion is expected to cost the state $23 million to $40 million annually.
Brown's signature comes amidst tension nationwide about immigration, most recently over strict new laws in Georgia and Alabama. Meanwhile, the Obama administration announced it would suspend deportation proceedings against undocumented immigrants who aren't a danger to public safety, including people who immigrated as young children and are in school.
Republican Assemblyman Tim Donnelly said the legislation would encourage illegal immigration and force students who are in the country legally to compete with undocumented immigrants for public resources.
"I think that it is perhaps the biggest mistake that Gov. Brown has ever made," he said, "other than unionizing public employees."
Donnelly, of Twin Peaks, is setting up a website, "STOP the Nightmare Act," and pledged to launch a referendum campaign. In a prepared statement, Cedillo said the bill "will send a message across the country that California is prepared to lead the country with a positive and productive vision for how we approach challenging issues related to immigration."

Signing a bill like this on a Saturday is not going to make the reaction any quieter. Heard this out of control on steroids legislature sent the gov hundreds of bills. Man I wish they were part time so they couldn't do as much damage.
Look for the initiative process to kick into gear. Something this huge ought to be put up to the voters.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at https://eepurl.com/cktGTn

Cal needs to get a referundum to overturn this Dream Act. Perhaps a few civil law suits also for aiding and supporting criminal activity (illegals). There needs to be a total shutdown of aid to illegals and undocumented persons. While the Supreme Court says we cannot stop them from attending we can draft a law that stops all credits and diplomas be with held from any student (including High school) until such time as that illegal or undocumented student leaves the country and reenters legally and can provide proof of being here legally. There is no place in the constitution that says credits and diplomas have to be issued. We need to impliment in all states set of laws requiring all students provide proof of citizenship and those who cannot will have all records and credits held up.
