SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group is holding a rally at the U.S.-Mexico border Friday in support of President Trump’s proposed border wall.

The Angel Families, a group consisting of families who’ve had loved ones killed by undocumented migrants, are gathering in San Ysidro to back the president’s efforts to secure the border.

Agnes Gibboney, an Angel Families leader, said, “We’re calling on all Americans to support President Trump, who’s fighting hard to keep his campaign promise to build the wall. We need to build the wall so we can prevent the needless loss of life at the hands of illegal aliens.”

Earlier this week, migrants in Tijuana who traveled from Central America to Mexico demanded entry into the U.S. or $50,000 per person to travel back to their home country.

“What a joke. What gives them the right to blackmail our country, our president, to give them $50,000? Are you kidding me? Who does that, criminals?” Gibboney said.

Gibboney’s son was shot to death by a previously deported undocumented migrant in 2002.

Meanwhile, migrants currently in Tijuana are asking local leaders to offer more restrooms and shelters for the caravan .

SAN YSIDRO (KUSI) – The Angel Families, named for mothers whose loved ones were killed by illegal aliens, held a news conference at the US-Mexico border on Friday to show their support for President Trump in the wake of Tuesday’s confrontation in the Oval Office.

“My first thought was this was a set-up from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to make President Trump look bad,” Angel Mom Agnes Gibboney said. “They have no intentions of funding the wall.” The first women to speak is calling on Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to “fund the wall or resign.”

In 2002, Gibboney’s son, Ronald Da Silva, was fatally shot by a previously deported illegal alien. In January, Gibboney was pictured with Trump as part of a campaign ad opposing illegal immigration.

“We’re calling on all Americans to support President Trump who’s fighting hard to keep his campaign promise to build the wall,” Gibboney said late Thursday. “We need to build the wall so we can prevent the needless loss of life at the hands of illegal aliens.”

The Angel Families organized in September to lend a voice to people who lost children, mothers, and fathers to illegal alien crime. In June, the Angel Families met with President Trump in the Oval Office.

“We are fighting so that no other American family has to feel the pain and the grief that we do,” said Mary Anne Mendoza, a representative of the national Angel Families organization. Her son, Sgt. Brandon Mendoza of the Mesa, Arizona Police Department was killed by a person living in the country illegally in 2014.

“We stand firm with President Trump,” Mendoza said. “Angel Families supports him. Shut down the government. We need a stand alone border security act.”

A March 2018 report published in the journal Criminology found that from 1990 to 2014, states with more immigrants living there tend to average less violent crime percentage wise than states with fewer immigrants here illegally.

The group of angel families and activists plan to hold a second rally Saturday at 11 a.m. on the San Ysidro Port of Entry bridge.

Representatives from Protect America First, former Maricopa County, Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio’s political action committee, will attend the rally, Bergquam said.

On a Facebook Live, KUSI’s Sasha Foo spoke with Angel mom, Agnes Bibboney, lost her son Ron DeSilva in 2002 who was shot and killed by a gang member who was previously deported. He is due to be released from prison in April 2020. See what she had to say about her support for building the wall and President Trump’s strong stance on border security.
