The U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce held a field hearing today in Dalton, Ga., to focus on the impact of illegal immigration on Medicaid and health delivery.

House Committee members heard testimony from Georgia state elected officials, health care professionals and administrators and research specialists. The hearing, which took place at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center, focused on the usage of taxpayer-funded services by non-citizens, emergency room services, Medicaid eligibility verification and border security.

Members of the Hispanic community from Dalton and other parts of the state expressed discontent with the outcome of the hearings, citing a biased presentation of the facts.

Outside the Convention Center, members of the Dustin Inman Society, a coalition of Georgia residents, held signs asking for the passage of a border security measure by Congress.
