Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson announced plans to evict illegal immigrants from HUD housing in an effort to free up housing space, and leftists are complaining that the real problem is there is simply not enough housing available.
Last week, Carson revealed his plan to free up HUD housing for low income families by evicting illegal immigrants. While this would logically create more space for American citizens in the public housing, Buzzfeed appears convinced that the real problem is that there is simply not enough housing available for both citizens and illegal immigrants.
Politico reports that HUD is already prohibited from giving housing to illegal immigrants, but a “legal loophole” has allowed individuals to attain public housing without having their immigration status checked. Carson’s plan would end this loophole, making the housing strictly for those who can prove their United States citizenship.
Last week, Carson posted to Twitter that “we are putting America’s most vulnerable first,” and noted that “hundreds of thousands of citizens are waiting many years on waitlists to get housing assistance.”

In an article posted last week, Buzzfeed seemed to lament that the real cause of the crisis is not enough housing, while failing to note the mathematical certainty that freeing up housing by evicting those who are not even legally residing in the United States would, by default, create more room for American citizens in need.
According to individuals cited by Buzzfeed, “HUD’s new proposal is trying to address a problem that doesn’t exist when it comes to undocumented immigrants, while at the same time failing to address the very real public housing shortage.”

The Buzzfeed article then denies reality again by claiming that “all applicants must be US citizens or documented residents and go through an immigration screening process,” even though the aforementioned loophole allows illegal immigrants to attain housing without proving their citizenship.
Buzzfeed concludes its article with more fear mongering about “ripping families apart,” in cases where residents are living in public housing alongside illegal immigrants.
This would appear to be Buzzfeed’s latest example of denying reality. It is undeniable that removing illegal immigrants from housing that is already reserved for American citizens would create more room for those the program is meant to serve.

Trump Admin to Block Illegal Aliens from Taking Public Housing from Americans

How much are illegal aliens costing Americans? Even the housing cost alone is incredible.
Last month, I revealed that the Trump administration had moved to block illegal alien DACAers from getting taxpayer subsidized mortgages.

Under Obama, FHA rules had been bent so far backward that people who were not only non-citizens, not only non-permanent residents, but weren’t even legally here, were having taxpayers guarantee their mortgages.
The December letter by Senator Menendez, who had recently been on trial for corruption charges, Senator Booker, on whose watch the $100 million poured into Newark public schools dissipated, and Senator Cortez-Mastro, who had been accused of taking dirty money, claimed to be, “appalled that the Trump Administration would exploit a federal government program to deny Dreamers an opportunity of owning their own home.” But it was the Democrats who had exploited a federal government program meant for poor Americans to benefit not only foreigners, but illegal aliens with no right to be here.

Now HUD is moving to block illegal aliens from taking public housing meant for Americans.

The Trump administration is proposing a new rule to try to block some 32,000 illegal immigrant-led families from claiming public housing assistance, saying it’s unfair to hundreds of thousands of Americans who are stuck on waiting lists.
The plan would scrap Clinton-era regulations that allowed illegal immigrants to sign up for assistance without having to disclose their status.
Under the new Trump rules, not only would the leaseholder using public housing have to be an eligible U.S. person, but the government would verify all applicants through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a federal system that’s used to weed illegal immigrants out of other welfare programs.
“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” an administration official told The Washington Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”

Lefty activists keep complaining about a homeless crisis, yet they're filling public housing with illegal alien invaders. That's how much they care about American homeless people.

In homeless-plagued America, why are taxpayers financing second homes for illegals?

The Trump administration on Friday moved forward with a proposed rule to make it harder for illegal immigrants to access federally subsidized housing — the latest crackdown by the administration on immigrants who use public assistance.

The rule, proposed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and posted in the Federal Register, would require that those seeking public housing would be subject to verification of their immigration status.
Only families in which every member is either a citizen or a legal resident would qualify for federally subsidized housing.
Currently families where at least one person is either a citizen or green card holder can get federal assistance, even if other family members are not.
