Hundreds march in opposition of Minuteman groups in New Mexi

LAS CRUCES, N.M. Hundreds of demonstrators marched through downtown Las Cruces today to protest the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps volunteer group.

Elected officials from New Mexico and Texas decried the volunteer-based border patrol group as racist and un-American.

The League of United Latin American Citizens organized the march and rally to show that Minuteman volunteers are not wanted in the area.

Minuteman volunteers plan to patrol parts of the border in New Mexico and Texas starting in October. They have repeatedly denied claims of racism.

The group gained international attention earlier this year when a contingent patrolled a section of the Mexican border in southern Arizona.

Minuteman member William N. Norris said the group's goal is not to stop immigration, but to ensure that immigrants -- quote -- "fill out the paperwork and sign the guest book at the gate."

Mary Jane Garcia, the majority whip of the New Mexico State Senate, called on the federal government to take action against the Minuteman volunteers and work on real reform of immigration laws.http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=3631918

exactly what "action" can the federal government take against citizens that are watching our borders that's not against their Constitutional rights? Perhaps she should requests the federal government "repel invasions" as is it's duty under the Constitution

Does Mary Jane Garcia propose the federal government take action against all those that volunteered in the military following 9/11 to protect our country?

I've a feeling that her idea of immigration reform is automatic amnesty, erasing the borders, the ousting of English from society, the deportation of whites to Europe, etc etc. etc.

These protesters aren't as powerful as they seem. If they were as powerful as they would have you believe they wouldn't be so threatened by a bunch of retirees in lawnchairs.

I'm sure most of the protesters were really young and naive--I would have been one of them if I were still 20 YO. I heard that one protester of the Arizona Minute Men totally went off on the MM--but agreed "something had to be done about illegal immigration." This kid felt that the MM were just going about it the wrong way. When pressed to suggest a better "way to go," she had no answer.

Kids are sweet and want everything to be fair to everybody and that's why I love them. However--the real world needs to have adults running it. Fair and informed adults.

Two questions to pose to the kids:

    1) would you like to go to college?

    2) are you willing to give up your seat to an illegal alien

    OR:

    1) would you like to have a job?

    2) are you willing to give up your job to an illegal alien

There are not enough of either for both, so what's it gonna be?

They'll get it pretty quick. One thing these kids today is money and that is takes alot of it to survive.

This League of United Latin American Citizens probably PAID kids to get out there and protest. Maybe they even offered them free COFFEE and DONUTS!!!!

What the federal government NEEDS to do is get off their backsides and PROTECT OUR BORDERS so there won't be a NEED for citizen volunteers. That's the action they could take to solve this problem--not stop the Minutemen from doing the GOVERNMENT's job.
