Immigrants rallied at Confluence Park in Denver yesterday, hoping their voices will encourage lawmakers to pass comprehensive immigration reform this year.
The rally Ń attended by hundreds Ń coincided with a national rally in Washington, D.C., attended by tens of thousands of protesters demanding immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship for an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants.
But the attention of the day was on health care reform as Democrats seemingly made their final push for legislation.
Alex Martinez, a member of Rights For All People, said she hopes the rallies yesterday will encourage lawmakers to work on both health reform and immigration reform.
“This is to remind them that we haven’t forgotten that promise,â€Ron Paul in 2011 "[...]no amnesty should be granted. Maybe a 'green card' with an asterisk should be issued[...]a much better option than deportation."
