Immigration protester arrested in congressman's office

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Dudley woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon during a sit-in at 13th District Congressman George Holding's off in Raleigh to urge him to push U.S. House leaders toward a vote on immigration reform.

Angelita Morrisroe, 64, was charged with second-degree trespassing. Her arrest was part of a nationwide protest to pressure House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to schedule a vote on a reform measure passed last year by the U.S. Senate.

"I am so tired of all the suffering of immigrant families. Everyone is suffering for the same reason – the House Republicans refuse to act on immigration reform," Morrisroe said before her arrest. "Congressman Holding needs to act now."

She said she has had five family members deported from the U.S., two of whom were quickly killed upon returning to Mexico.

"We can’t keep living and working in the shadows and not have the opportunity to prosper. On behalf the majority of Americans, Republicans need to do something today," Sergio Sanchez, president of Fuerza y Libertad, which sponsored the sit-in at Holding's office and is an affiliate of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, said in a statement.

Americans would be quickly arrested for breaking a law to insist on a law being changed, I think. Why were not all arrested?
