    OMAHA, Neb. —
A judge set bond at $2 million for the suspect in a fatal hit-and-run near 32nd and Q Streets.

Prosecutors said in court, the suspect, Luis Velasquez-Ortiz, is in the country illegally.

"The state would suggest that he's a high flight risk," Jameson Cantwell, with the Douglas Country Attorney said to the judge, "He is here illegally, from Guatemala. He avoided police after this incident. When he was located and arrested, he was found with fraudulent state, federal and international identification documents."

Surveillance video captured the moment Velasquez-Ortiz' truck collided with a motorcycle driven by Jairo Tamayo on Wednesday near 32nd and Q Streets. Investigators said Velasquez-Ortiz failed to yield.

"The motorcycle and the victim ended up underneath the defendant's Ford vehicle," Cantwell said, "The defendant then accelerated and drove over the victim and the motorcycle, fleeing the scene."

Omaha Police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials found Velasquez-Ortiz Thursday in an apartment in South Omaha, after witnesses reported his license plate following the crash.

The victim, Jairo Tamayo, died at the scene, leaving behind a longtime girlfriend and their four children.

Velasquez-Ortiz is facing a charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, resulting in serious bodily injury or death. He faces a maximum of four years in prison for that charge. The Douglas County Attorney's office said the investigation is ongoing, and they are looking at a possible motor vehicle homicide charge.
