Latino Clergy Lead Protest Against Resolution
Latino Clergy Lead Protest Against Resolution
MANASSAS, Va. - Sunday August 19, 2007 11:38 am
About 500 people rallied Saturday against a crackdown on illegal immigrants in Prince William County.
Last month, the county board of supervisors passed a resolution aimed at denying public services to illegal immigrants and giving county police more power to check immigration status.
At the protest outside the county's government center, people knelt, gripped Bibles and shut their eyes tightly as preachers took turns leading prayers and songs. Speakers denounced the measures and asked that they be repealed.
The protest was organized by the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders. The group says it hopes to meet with county officials in the next two weeks to alter the resolution. Unless the board agrees to significant changes, the group says it will file a lawsuit.
Prince William Supervisor John Stirrup sponsored the county's resolution. He says he doesn't expect the board to change its position.

Maybe someone with a good legal mind should look into the issue of "standing" "Standing" means that the plaintiff has a right, in the first place, to bring a lawsuit.
Do these plaintiffs even have standing in regards to the issues they are pursuing?"Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
