When they ask about citizenship, one simply has to indicate that (the parents) are not eligible for the stamps due to their (immigration status) and their are no more questions after that. (it should be that at this point, the counselors have a duty to report this information to ICE..one could only hope)
Many of you out there think what I was thinking? That the whole purpose of homeland security was to tie in all entities the the US government. Be able to collect and distribute information on instances like this among all branches.

One in four Philadelphia residents, 351,879, receive food stamps.
And this is just ONE CITY!

I've often wondered about that too. How do these illegals get away without having to show proof? I know most claim to be single moms to get the welfare. Pure evil!

The Greater Philadelphia Coalition against Hunger provides assessment and counseling for those people wishing to apply for food stamps
Why might one need to be 'assessed and counseled' to apply for food stamps? It seriously isn't a traumatic event required preparation... you fill out the papers, show up for the appt, and bring the verification.

Are the illegal aliens being 'assessed and counseled' on how to LIE on the food stamp applications???

    RatBstart,
I am in total agreement as I'm in the same situation. If I had an accent, I'm sure I could get away with claiming no savings.

This story reminded me of what happens in my grocery store: People using food cards make a big purchase first with the card. Then they have a second purchase (beer and booze) that they pay cach for. So our taxes are not buying their booze directly, but since we're paying for all their other groceries, we're paying for it indirectly. If I can't afford milk, I can't afford booze. It makes me nuts when I see it.

Oh, and those people using the cards, forget about them knowing English. Certainly they don't understand the term "15 items or less"!

Because it is RACIST to ask illegal aliens about their status. And illegal aliens just have to show maybe a Mexican Mickey Mouse card or a copy of a utility bill that could have been yours thrown in the trash in order to qualify for benefits. It is a dont ask, dont tell policy. But when it comes to Americans or Legal residents, we all have to show several forms of id to get benefits. ILLEGAL ALIENS GET CODDLED BY OUR GOVERNMENT AND WE PAY FOR IT ALL.

A pseudo American, largely hispanic grocery within walking distance overrun with 4-5 kids speaking Spanish on almost every cart and I am getting sick of having to dodge these little maniacs or other shoppers (non-English-speaking) who own every aisle. If I run in there, it has to be prior to 11 a.m. when the masses arrive for hot lunches at the deli counter, and schools let out. While some men pull out a huge wad of cash checking out, the women with the screaming kids usually pull out food stamps and coupons and vouchers. While I would love to call ICE, I have absolutely no proof this store is hiring illegals, so I grin and bear it and am doing my best to learn some Spanish during every shopping experience.
