    Lugar Introduces DREAM Act

    Press Release of Senator Lugar
    Lugar Introduces DREAM Act

    Thursday, March 26, 2009

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar cosponsored the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, which was introduced Thursday, March 26, 2009, with Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL). The bill would help young, undocumented immigrants who grew up in the United States to earn legal status by obtaining an education and completing national or public service.

The measure would grant conditional legal status to youth who successfully complete high school or equivalent. They then would have six years to graduate from college or a trade school or join the military. If successful in one of those areas, the conditional legal status would become permanent and they could then move towards U.S. citizenship.

“Approximately 50,000 undocumented students graduate from high schools each year; however, without legal status, it is difficult for them to secure a job or afford to attend college,â€

Presently, the law penalizes states that grant a post-secondary benefit, such as in-state tuition, to undocumented students unless the state also provides that same benefit to out-of-state students. This legislation will allow states to grant in-state tuition rates to undocumented immigrants.
These undocumented illegal students with their parents are illegally in our country.

Consider the taxpayers in America. We need to close our borders. And Americans jobs have been taken by foreigners who are undocumented immigrants; and have no legal status to even work in America.

And we, Americans, are made by international law to give K-12 education to students, which is truly not fair. In other words Americans have been overly generous in my opinion. We are not even checking with E-Verify to make sure the parents can even work in the United States.

Remember the Grade Point Averages are and have been effected by the undocumented immigrants, too. Even this is not fair for American Students and their parents. Many American Students have been knocked out of higher class ranking due to the undocumented illegal students. A reduced class ranking has kept many American Students from going to college due to undocumented immigrants. I have seen this happen.

I truly fear the reactions when American Parents wake up to this fact of Grade Point Averages and how their children have been cheated out of college.

American families are having an extremely hard time affording to send their kids to college even with grants, in-state tuiton and loans. This idiot wants to dilute the dwindling available funds and give them to illegal aliens?

Does he really think Americans are that stupid?

This is what they've all been waiting for, folks. It's their first step to total takeover. Using the children as shills, they'll get it if we don't start doing something NOW about it.

    Senator,

You are being fooled by Dick Durbin when he states that the DREAM Act will benefit roughly 60,000 illegal immigrant children. The truth is that enactment of this legislation will open the doors of the US to an endless stream of chain migration that this nation can ill afford.

Dr. Steve Camarota at the Center for Immigration Studies this afternoon, October 23, 2007, issued estimates on how many illegal aliens potentially could be involved if the DREAM Act amnesty becomes law. His research was based on the latest government surveys.

DREAM Act Offers Amnesty to 2.1 Million and exponentially much more:

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2007) — The Senate is currently considering the DREAM Act (S.2205). Some have argued that only 60,000 illegal immigrants would be granted amnesty annually under the Act, but a new analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies of 2007 Census Bureau data shows millions of potential beneficiaries.

An estimated 800New Estimate Shows Another 1.4 Million Family Members Could Also Stay
,000 illegal immigrants under age 17 have been here long enough to qualify for legalization under the DREAM Act. There are a total of 1.7 million illegal aliens estimated to be under age 18.

    • There are an estimated 900,000 parents of illegal aliens under age 18 who qualify. It is unclear whether the government would deport these parents.

    • The DREAM Act is also unclear as to what will happen to the siblings of legalized illegals who are themselves illegal, but do not meet the Act’s requirements. There are an estimated 500,000 such children.

    • The DREAM Act also allows illegal aliens ages 18 to 29 to legalize if they claim to have arrived prior to age 16. We estimate 1.3 million meet this requirement. There are a total of 4.4 million illegal aliens in this age group.

    • Thus the total number of potential amnesty beneficiaries is 2.1 million (assuming no fraud). This does not include 1.4 million siblings and parents of qualifying illegals who may end up receiving a de facto amnesty.

    • Prior legalization programs have been plagued by fraud. One-fourth (700,000) of those legalized in the 1986 amnesty are estimated to have done so fraudulently.

    • Given the difficulty in determining whether an applicant meets the DREAM Act’s amnesty requirements, coupled with the overworked nature of the immigration bureaucracy, fraud could be a significant problem.

    Dear Senator,

Why the DREAM Act is unfair, irresponsible, and disastrous to the United States:

College tuition has skyrocketed in recent years. Many Americans cannot afford college or have taken out student loans. Should the United States neglect its own citizens and subsidize the education of students who are here illegally? Proponents of the DREAM Act argue that parents of illegal students have paid taxes and that the United States should invest in them. The hard truth is that most illegal workers, due to their low-incomes, do not pay enough taxes to offset the cost of educating their children in American public grade schools. This cost can exceed $9,500 per child per year if the student receives the so-called bilingual education, not to mention the costs of other social services.

Furthermore, rewarding illegal foreign nationals can only lead to higher illegal immigration. The misnamed “Immigration Reform and Control Actâ€

    Dear Senator,

The DREAM Act is perilous legislation for our nation.

Whether it continues to be a stand alone bill or if it gets speciously attached to other, unrelated legislation, it should be opposed by any politician that truly cares about the American citizenry.

The DREAM Act is nothing more than a “back doorâ€
