Mesa man accused of aiding a federal fugitive
Mesa man accused of aiding a federal fugitive
Associated Press - March 31, 2011 12:04 AM ET
PHOENIX (AP) - A Mesa man has been arrested for allegedly helping a federal fugitive flee the country.
The U.S. Marshals Service says 43-year-old Robert Tutokey was taken into custody Tuesday.
Authorities said Wednesday that Tutokey has been charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office with misuse of a passport and providing false statements in the application for it.
They say Tutokey obtained a passport under his name and then gave it to Paul Merle Eischeid, considered of the 15 most wanted fugitives by the Marshals Service.
The 39-year-old Eischeid fled the country in 2004, but was captured by Argentinean authorities in Buenos Aires in February. He's currently awaiting extradition.
Eischeid was sought by federal authorities in the 2001 stabbing death of a Phoenix-area woman. He also was wanted for drug trafficking and racketeering.
