Mexican consulate seeking citizen advisor
Mexican consulate seeking citizen advisor
The Brownsville Herald
Today is the last day for area residents to apply for an advisory role with the Mexican government that would allow them to guide its policies towards Mexican national living in the United States for the next three years.
A three-year term as Brownsville’s Consejero Consultativo del Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (CCIME) or Advisor for the Institute of Mexicans Abroad is available for area residents with a strong interest in improving the quality of life for Mexican nationals living and working outside of Mexico.
Current CCIME advisor Benigno Peña did not return calls for comment, but written materials from the SecretarÃÂ*a de las Re-leaciones Exteriores show that advisors are expected to make recommendations to the Mexican government twice a year.
The group’s areas of focus are business, education, politics, and health as well as border and legal issues.
Mexican Consul Victor Manuel Treviño Escudero said applicants must be Mexican citizens by birth or naturalization, live within Cameron, Willacy or Kenedy counties, speak Spanish and have a leadership role in their community.
Application materials are available at the Mexican Consulate at Amigoland Mall or by calling Barbara Gutierrez at (956) 542-4051.
