Mexican Immigrants a Drag, Study Shows

Two scholars affiliated with the Russell Sage Foundation have re-examined some earlier data to reach a familiar conclusion about the failure of Mexican immigrants to assimilate fully, although the title reveals an agenda: “Generations of Exclusionâ€

There is no substitute for having Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans invest in Mexico. Eventually within a generation of doing that Mexico will be at a par in per capita income with the rest of North America.

Yea, it's amazing DJ what the Vietnamese have been able to accomplish in this country in such a short period of time. They do have problems now with gangs, but not nearly to the extent as hispanics do. I have never ever heard asians blame anyone for anything, they work extremely hard and are mostly grateful to be here.

That's what assimilation means. The mexicans should take note and stop blaming everyone for their failures.

Having been victimized by some of these smaller ethnic groups (I won't mention which ones) I can say that any of them are quite ready to bend the rules to get ahead. There's good and bad in all of them. Fortunately, most of then came from far away across a big ocean--so it is much more difficult for their "buddies" to get here. Is the challenge of acculturating people from different societies to our system of rules worth it? We have a hard enough time seeing that our own native born people are raised right.

The economic benefits of tolerating a huge immigrant influx could alternatively be met with some Yankee ingenuity. As the techniques of mass production and industrialization advanced many groups of craftsmen and artisans and professionals had to make adjustments. We've got enough adjustment going on already without having to introduce a bunch of backwards people to the Western way.

Europeans came here to stay and make a life for generations to come. Many Mexicans come here to make money and then return home to live like kings and queens. They have no intention and no desire to learn English and assimilate.
