MEXICAN NATIONAL INDICTED FOR RE-ENTERING THE U.S. AFTER DEPORTATION, ILLEGAL FIREARMS



KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An illegal alien from Mexico residing in Kansas City was indicted by a federal grand jury today for re-entering the U.S. after his deportation, and for illegally possessing firearms, announced Todd P. Graves, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) investigated the case.

Manuel Avila-Ramos, 30, a Mexican national living in Kansas City, was charged in a three-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City.

Count One of the federal indictment alleges that Avila-Ramos was illegally in the United States on Sept. 29 after having been previously deported.
Count Two of the federal indictment alleges that Avila-Ramos was an illegal alien possessing a firearm on Sept. 29. Under federal law, it is illegal for any illegal alien to possess any firearm or ammunition. The indictment alleges that Avila-Ramos possessed a Lorcin .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Count Three of the federal indictment alleges thatAvila-Ramos, having a previous conviction, also was a felon possessing a firearm on Sept. 29. Under federal law, it is illegal for any felon to possess any firearm or ammunition.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul S. Becker is prosecuting this case.
