GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (AP) -- A bomb exploded early Wednesday outside an office building housing a Citibank branch, blowing out windows and causing some damage but no injuries, police said.

The so-called Group of People's Combatants, or GCP by its initials in Spanish, claimed responsibility for the attack. An e-mail sent to The Associated Press, claiming to be from the group, said the blast was in opposition to free trade talks between Ecuador, Peru and Colombia with the United States aimed at opening tariff-free access to U.S. markets.

The 10th round of negotiations are now taking place in this Pacific coast city, the country's banking and financial hub.

In recent years, the GCP, described by authorities as a band of leftist extremists, have exploded several small bombs in Ecuador's main cities.

SIXX--Oh my God!! We just pm'ed and SIXX was telling me why he hadn't posted. He is in Ecuador on an important mission with doctors helping the sick. He was not due to leave until Friday, so they will miss 2 days or 2.5 days of their medical mission to help the people there in Ecuador. That is what he meant about not being able to help the babies in Ecuador, their trip has been cut short by the bombing over CAFTA. Citibank, that's CitiGroup, that's a sponsor of National Council of La Raza!! I wonder why they picked CitiBank as a target?

We left where we were to go to the airport. We got there and the Minister of Health pleaded with us not to go home. He sent what I would guess is a company of infantry troops with us back to Quito and so we are going to stay, under a well guarded situation. We sat at the airport from midnight till 4:00 a.m. while the negotiations went on and we took a vote. NOBODY voted to leave. Fill you in later. We are all safe and the procedures are going fine. Did anyone see this in the papers, t.v. , radio stateside?

Will someone please tell me why this wasn't on the news? I've got Fox News running in the background, and nothing has been said. Could it be because it would reck Bush's silly little trade plans?
