BELMOPAN, Belize -- Robert Snyder, the child molester who evaded probation obligations in Colorado and fled the United States, was on Monday afternoon deported from Belize where he had spent the past sixteen months under a false name.

Two police sergeants from the Belize Police Force escorted Synder onto a Continental Airlines flight to Houston, where he was handed over to US Marshals on Monday night.

Belize National Security Minister, Carlos Perdomo, signed the Expulsion Order early Monday and arrangements were made by the local police, the US Embassy and US Regional Security Officers for his deportation.

The middle-aged sex offender, who is said to be a reputable chess master and worked for actors Will Smith and Nicholas Cage, was jailed in Colorado for child molestation after a plea bargain, and on his release from prison in August 2008 he was ordered to register as a sex offender to meet his probation obligations, but fled the country instead.

He came into Belize using the name Augustin Rios and presented false documents to the immigration authorities.

It did not take him long to secure a job as a chess instructor at primary schools in the country, but there are no reports of any child molestation while he was in the country. He also married a police officer while in Belize.

Belize police authorities said that they did not take action against Snyder since he was being deported.

It is said that Snyder is an excellent chess instructor and has written a couple of books about the game.
