MS: Restaurant Manager Makes Racial Profiling Claim

    Jackson 02/06/08
Restaurant Manager Makes Racial Profiling Claim

The manager of a Mexican restaurant in Jackson says he was racially profiled during a recent Border Patrol operation.

Surveillance video from La Cotorra restaurant on Hwy 80 shows two agents entering the business. The manager says one of the agents put a gun to his head and demanded to see his permanent residence card. The video doesn't show any weapons being drawn, but you can see several customers run once they see the agents.

Hilario Bonilla believes the agents targeted his business simply because he's latino. "We're not criminals, we're just working here and doing the right thing. We pay taxes like they do," says Bonilla.

The alleged incident happened January 25th,the same time immigration and customs enforcement and Border Patrol agents conducted raids in the Jackson metro area.

A Border Patrol spokesperson says they are looking into the incident.

No charges in false Border Patrol claim

    By Nicklaus Lovelady

A Latino Jackson business owner who filed a complaint alleging U.S Border Patrol agents aimed guns at him and his customers has admitted he falsified his claim.

Hillario Bonilla, owner of La Cotorra, told local news outlets that on Jan. 25, two agents stormed his restaurant with guns drawn and without a search warrant. He claimed that customers were terrified.

Last week, an internal investigation and an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security concluded when Bonilla admitted he was not telling the truth, according to court records.

Bonilla signed an affidavit stating his claim was incorrect and that he wanted to dismiss his complaint, records show.

Bonilla will not face any criminal charges for making the false claim, Border Patrol Assistant Chief William Hitchcock said.

And this is why they will get many more of these false claims because these people get away with this crap....The reason we use to be a land of law and order was we would not have gotten away with it, there for we would not have done it, just like most of us know better than to steal anothers identity.

This is far more serious than what Melanie Bowers did, yet he walks away scot free?
