A Late-Breaking Moment of Drama on Driver's Licenses for Illegal Immigrants

Hillary on driver's licenses for illegal immigrants: "Spitzer is trying to make up for the failure of the Bush Administration to address illegal immigration. He's filling a vaccuum... We need to get back to comprehensive immigration reform."

Only Dodd thinks that illegal immigrants should not have driver's licenses.

Hillary refuses to say she supports it, but says she understands why Spitzer is doing it.

Dodd tries to go after her, and seems to succeed. "But what is the identification if someone runs into you today?" She says, "It makes a lot of sense. What is a governor supposed to do? We have failed, and George W. Bush has failed to address this issue."

Wow. First moment she seems really defensive. The SLIGHTLY TOO LOUD tone is completely wrong here.

Edwards and Obama, finally sensing an opening, say they couldn't understand Hillary's answer, that she's contracting

Obama backs it, of course, citing a "public safety concern."

That makes sense to me; I could never understand Bush's refusal to shore up the borders and put up the complement allowed by the budget congress provided; then, the whole move towards the "comprehensive immigration notion"...well, the president saw what happened to McCain, his popularity despite the the war and his 9-11 popularity; the illegal immigration issue is proving itself to be even more dangerous than social security.

Lindsey Graham, Brownback, Kyl, should sit down with people like Hutchison and give her a heads up. Now if Feinstein and Boxer Reid and Durbin could just get dome religion.

you guessed it. This issue is slowly and surely moving its way up to the national prominence that the President of the US never thought was that important.

Mel martinez resigned from the RNC chair, and it's just getting some national prominence by the (R) elites.
