N.C.: Republican Lawmaker Wants to Ban Undocumented Immigran

Republican Lawmaker Wants to Ban Undocumented Immigrants from North Carolina Colleges

    Published January 28, 2011

A GOP lawmaker wants to ban undocumented immigrants from attending North Carolina colleges and universities.

A North Carolina lawmaker is proposing a bill that would ban undocumented immigrants from higher learning in the state.

Rep. George Cleveland of Onslow County introduced a bill Thursday that change admissions rules for the University of North Carolina campuses and the country's third-largest community college system.

It would reverse a vote by the college's board last year, one that admitted undocumented immigrants to classrooms if they graduated from a U.S. high school, pay out-of-state tuition and don't displace a citizen.

The community colleges have changed the undocumented immigrant admission policy four times since 2000.

The Pew Hispanic Center says North Carolina had about 275,000 undocumented immigrants in 2009, down from about 350,000 the previous year.

Based on reporting by the Associated Press.

GO REPUBLICANS! GO NORTH CAROLINA! GO STATES! GO AMERICANS!

Absolutely! No illegal aliens should be able to attend any college or university in this state, because they can't be in a college legally, because they can't be in our state legally, because they aren't in our country legally. Not one public-funded school, let alone higher education facilities, whether they're publicly-funded with tax dollars or funded with tax exempt contributions and tax-exempt status should be allowed to admit even 1 illegal alien for any reason. I don't care how big a sob story they have, I don't care what grades they may have, I don't care what talents they claim to possess ... THIS IS WRONG to allow any illegal alien to take even 1 seat in even 1 college or university in our state when we have American Kids in North Carolina lined up to the borders wanting college educations and the many opportunities those educations will provide them in the future.

WAKE UP NORTH CAROLINIANS! These are seats of education and opportunity that belong to you and your children, not foreign nationals in our country in violation of federal law.

The absurdity of allowing illegal aliens to attend our colleges and universities is just BEYOND THE PALE.

Fix it and fix it now. Support this legislation and start solving problems instead of perpetuating them.

And any member of any educational institution who serves on the "college board" and voted to allow illegal aliens admission to our colleges and universities should be fired and replaced with people who have 2 live brain cells still connected.

County lawmakers: Keep illegal immigrants out of public colleges

    John Guthrie

If passed, House Bill 11 would prevent illegal immigrants from attending North Carolina community colleges and state universities.

Currently, illegal immigrants are allowed to attend state schools, but they are charged out-of-state tuition.

Lawmakers representing Cleveland County contend that people living in the country illegally should not be afforded the same privileges extended to citizens and legal residents, while those pushing for greater immigrants’ rights argue that all people who work and pay taxes in the state should have access to the educational system.

‘The word illegal should mean something’

All four of Cleveland County’s state representatives, all of whom are Republicans, said that anyone who is not here legally should not be allowed to attend North Carolina’s public colleges.
