McALLEN, Texas — A Border Patrol agent who resigned in May has pleaded guilty to lying about when he confiscated some cocaine.

Federal prosecutors say 31-year-old Juan C. Espinoza of Edinburg pleaded guilty Tuesday in McAllen to making false statements or entries.

An internal investigation of Espinoza's actions, while on-duty in August 2006, involved a duffel bag of cocaine that he recovered and failed to document.

Sentencing is Sept. 16. Espinoza faces a maximum five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Espinoza remains free on bond.
