Pa. Non-Profit Questions Validity of Immigration Initiative
by KYW’s John McDevitt
As part of a crackdown on illegal immigrants, the federal government announced an initiative where companies would be required to fire employees with dubious social security numbers. A local non-profit says there is concern that the database being used is faulty.
The Welcoming Center for new Pennsylvanians is a non-profit economic development organization helping legally work-authorized people, who recently immigrated to the US, with things like finding jobs or starting a business.
Amanda Bergson-Shilcock is the director of intake and operations. She says the data system that the government is using to check legal status is not fully accurate:
"Even people who are legally work-authorized, if they’ve gotten married and changed their name or if they became a US citizen and changed their name or even if somebody made a data entry error in social security, there could be what the government calls a ‘no match problem’ which means the name the government has recorded for you to work under is not the correct name you have on your driver’s license or other identification."
Bergson-Shilcock says to get things corrected in many cases is complicated and could take months and will most likely result in the legally work-authorized people to lose their jobs.

Well if your name comes up a no-match go to the ss office and fix it!! good grief why do these people act so damn helpless, sorry we have to put you out alittle to fix this problem
maybe you should have went and changed your name when you got married or maybe you should go now if you haven't done it and you should have no problem later.

Then people can go down there and correct the problems.
I think we all know that the we have to start somewhere. Even the illegal invaders would agree with this...
if it was us in their country!
Personally I willing to take the risk.

I think we all know this is not about legal immigrants who get married or divorced or whatever. It's about illegal aliens. Their advocates believe we're too stupid to realize it. Fact is, illegal aliens cannot fix these problems 'cuz hey're not errors. They're GOTCHAS!
