DAVIDSON
A 29-year-old illegal immigrant faces numerous charges, including driving while impaired, after crashing in front of a Davidson church on Sunday, a town official said. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.Turubiartes also faces charges of resisting a public officer, failure to report an accident, reckless driving and driving without a license.
Levine said the man also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest, including one for a past DWI.
No bystanders were injured when Turubiartes' SUV jumped a curb and landed upside down in the middle of South Main Street. Turubiartes climbed from the vehicle and ran, but was apprehended by two church members.
Levine said Davidson police were not sure of his country of origin.
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service was contacted, Levine said.
Turubiartes and another occupant in his vehicle were treated and released with minor injuries.
