A Land of Opportunity Lures Poles Back Home

For 19 years, Elizabeth Baumgartner, a Polish-American from Queens, has been publishing a series of how-to books aimed at newly arrived Polish immigrants trying to find their way in the United States. The books cover topics like buying a house, investing in mutual funds and starting your own business.

These days, however, her best sellers are guides to a once-familiar place, Poland, with titles like “Returning to Polandâ€

A close relative of mine, a naturalized citizen in 1949, would never dream of going back to Estonia, even though she was offered dual citizenship after the country got its independence from the Soviet Union and could reclaim the house and property that was taken from her family. First and foremost, she is an American citizen which she is proud of. And she is livid about what this administration is doing looking the other way while every law of this country is either being circumvented or not enforced.
