Houston delegation reaction to Sotomayor selection

Texas on the Potomac will publish reaction from the Houston-area
congressional delegation to the Sotomayor nomination as soon as we get it.

    Congressmen Al Green, D-Houston:

Judge Sonia Sotomayor has already demonstrated that she is exceedingly capable through a career that spans thirty years as a prosecutor, litigator, trial court and appellate judge. In addition, she brings an extraordinary level of competency to the Supreme Court with more federal judicial experience than any justice in 100 years, and more overall judicial experience than anyone confirmed for the Court in the past 70 years. Her qualifications are exceptional having participated in over 3000 panel decisions and authored roughly 400 published opinions as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. However, there is one additional reason of paramount importance as to why she is a good choice. She has enjoyed bipartisan support in the past having been promoted to the Second Circuit Court by Democratic President Bill Clinton after having been appointed to the District Court for the Southern District of New York by Republican President George H.W. Bush.

If he nominates Judge Sonia Sotomayor, a tough-minded Hispanic-American from the Bronx, the Right will accuse her of being "willing to expand constitutional rights beyond the text of the Constitution." Her family hail from Puerto Rico, a US possession, but she will be painted as soft on illegal immigration, a red flag to millions of Americans.

I want to know why Obama could not find an African-American woman. This one reeks to high heaven. And, I'm already nervous. As I said on another group, he has what he wants. The Hispanic vote that hates white men.
