Hays Co., Texas -- Border Patrol agents arrested a 48-year-old unidentified driver on federal and state charges, after they say he drove right through a border checkpoint in Freer, Texas.

A dispatcher with the Live Oak Police Department confirmed to KENS 5 that officers chased the trailer through Atascosa, Bexar, Comal, Duval, and McMullen counties, including the city of San Antonio.

The caravan of vehicles was on Interstate 35, in the Somerset area, when police said the tires on the 18-wheeler blew out and the driver kept driving on his rims.

DPS confirms troopers did fire their weapons at the tires of the truck to try and stop it. At this time they could not confirm where along the chase those shots were fired.

The truck finally came to a stop on I-35 in Kyle, Texas, just north of San Marcos. Troopers opened the trailer and found 9 people inside. All were detained.

The high-speed chase spanned three hours; it started around 3 a.m. Thursday. Border Patrol agents are taking the driver back to Duval county for processing.
