DENVER -- A day before planned walkouts at more than a dozen Denver metro schools in protest of Arizona’s immigration law, the plight of an immigration activist is inspiring opponents of the law.

Edgar Nieba, whose parents moved him from Mexico to Colorado when he was 7 years old, was arrested and threatened with deportation Wednesday morning. He was released after the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, and other groups placed a flurry of phone calls to entities as high up as the White House.

Nieba said he now knows exactly what immigrants in Arizona would face under SB-1070, which requires local authorities to question suspected illegal immigrants.
