A California Reader Wants To See The Math On Immigrants With AIDS

Re: Randall Burns’ Blog: Bush Permits HIV Positive Immigration

President George W. Bush recently signed a bill removing the restriction on immigrants with AIDS from entering the U.S. [U.S. Acts to Open Borders to Foreigners with HIV, By Hernán Rozemberg, San Antonio Express-News, August 8, 2008]

No country on earth openly invites immigrants with deadly, communicable diseases.

Africa has roughly 100 million people with HIV, and very little ability to treat them. Is that a floodgate we really want to open?

I can't wait to see the creative math "proving" that a penniless immigrant, AIDS infected immigrant is still an economic benefit to America.

According to a recent study, the average HIV-positive patient will live twenty-four years and the cost of his treatment over a lifetime will exceed $600,000, a 40 percent increase over estimates made a decade ago.

What a wave of AIDS patients adds up to is another huge tax burden for the American citizen.
