House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence is receiving a leadership achievement award for his contributions to the Hispanic community, but nobody — including Pence — can seem to figure out why.

The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute is bestowing its 2010 public service award to Pence in a Thursday night ceremony because of “his extraordinary sensitivity toward and friendship with the U.S. Hispanic community," according to a statement by Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), who is board chairman for the nonprofit.

But GOP and Democratic lawmakers who have played a hand in advancing priorities to the Hispanic community, including comprehensive immigration reform, said they were puzzled by the honor. Even Pence was unsure of why he was being given the award.

“I’ll know better tonight after they say why they gave it to me,â€

The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) works to promote alternative approaches to challenges faced by more than 40 million Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent living in the United States. Through education partnerships and events, CHLI provides opportunities for discussion and exploration of strategic solutions for community challenges that in turn, benefit the nation as a whole.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors and Founder is U.S. Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart. The Executive Director of CHLI is Octavio Hinojosa Mier.

Established in November 2003, CHLI is a registered 501(c)-3 non-profit organization and is commonly recognized as an alternative organization to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, which was established more than 30 years ago.

Just another phony fraud not-for-profit, tax-exempt 501 C 3 ... draining our treasury lobbying for hand-outs we can't afford for people who aren't even supposed to be in the country to begin with.

It's bizarre. Maybe it's a Roast? He should bug out with a "thanks how kind but I really don't deserve it, please give it to someone else".

He is up for reelection this year is he not?

Maybe the pro-amnesty crowd is trying to turn voters against him by making it look like he is working against the best interests of this country and his constittuents?

    PENCE

This is a new plan of action called "Kill THEM With Kindness".
Many of the PRO AMNESTY sites are urging this new plan of action. To show themselves as the kinder, gentler race. Maybe they hope this award will mark Pence as a supporter and an enemy of the TEA PARTY?

Please visit Reform Immigration for America website and post your convictions. It rattles them to see opposing views and often they remove the story after I comment. I do use a different name on that site.

About the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute

Founded in 2003, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to fostering a broader awareness of the diversity of thought, heritage, interests and views of Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent. CHLI was founded under the leadership of members of Congress who have come together to offer an alternative voice for our nation's second largest demographic group.

By providing charitable and educational assistance to Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent, CHLI seeks to advance the diversity of social and cultural thought among our growing community, and offer a vision of the American Dream that focuses upon self-reliance, education, entrepreneurship and family values.

Furthermore, CHLIengages in nonpartisan analysis, study and research and makes these results available to the public. In this regard, CHLI focuses upon the demographics of the American Hispanic and Portuguese communities with respect to achieving improvements in education, housing, business ownership, and employment.

    Our Mission
To conduct nonpartisan analysis, study and research matters relating to the exercise of the rights of Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent and making the results available to the general public or to governmental bodies, officials or employees. Engage in educational and training activities designed to encourage and advance the exercise of rights of Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent and other minority groups. Gather, compile and disseminate statistical information relating to Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent. Promote the employment by Federal, state and local governmental agencies of Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent. Promote the employment and leadership of Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent at all levels in Corporate America (Private Sector) and those sensitive to the concerns and needs of our communities.

Everywhere you look there is a non-profit group for some ethnic group. So if you are simply an American you are S.O.L.
