Schwarzenegger Reaffirms Support for Minutemen
Posted on Jul 12, 2006
The Calif. governor said about the group of private citizens who are patrolling the country’s border with Mexico, “I support any time that a civilian wants to go and do the job that law enforcement cannot do.”
Ironically, the governor made the statement at a campaign stop while trying to burnish his credentials with Latino voters--many of whom view Minutemen as akin to the KKK.
Also, higher up in the piece: Karl Rove gets booed while trying to woo Latinos at a conference.
L.A. Times (half way down the piece):
... Immigration politics also surfaced in California’s gubernatorial race Tuesday, with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger renewing his support for the civilian Minuteman border patrols at a campaign stop to showcase his Latino supporters in a Mexican restaurant in Lynwood.
“I support any time that a civilian wants to go and do the job that law enforcement cannot do,” Schwarzenegger said in response to a question.
“I’m for that. I’m not for any harassment. I’m not for anyone carrying weapons. I’m not for any of that.
“But I have, for instance, in my house — for years and years and years — I’ve hired private security to take care of my house, because I felt that the police could not really cover every single house and protect the children and families.”Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

State Treasurer Phil Angelides, Schwarzenegger's Democratic challenger in the November election, has tried to undercut his support among Latinos by citing the governor's support for the Minuteman group.Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

I agree Arnold is not going to get re-elected as he keeps swapping sides and alienating all groups. What an idiot, pick a side and stick with it moron.

To lsmith1338 :
You're right Ismith. He IS an idiot. He should have stuck with his anti- illegal immigration rhetoric, which got him elected the first time, instead of throwing his cash in with the globalist NAU "Mexico is our friend" crowd!
Schwarzenegger's campaign managers believe that the Republicans (that includes me) will hold their nose while voting for him, only because we HATE Phil Angelides. However, I'm SOOO disgusted with his (Arnolds') pandering- that I'll vote for a Green party candidate instead of him.
