Sanctuary Law Contributed To Woman's Slaying, Organization Says

SEATTLE -- An organization based in Bellevue, Wash., says Seattle’s sanctuary law helped kill a University of Washington employee.

Authorities said Rebecca Griego was shot Monday in her office by her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Rowan, who was in the United States illegally.

Rowan entered the country from Britain in 1996 on a visa that expired in 90 days. He worked odd jobs, moved frequently and used fake names.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that Rowan had been arrested on drunken driving charges in June, but officers didn’t know he was an undocumented immigrant. City law forbids police from routinely asking people about their immigration status.

The “Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms” said three peace officers in Eastern Washington also have died at the hands of undocumented immigrants.

The committee said the Seattle City Council should repeal its sanctuary law.
