McALLEN - Two suspects are still at large following a shooting involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent that occurred Thursday evening, according to a news release.
Two men were detained and two remain at large in an incident that began about 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the 6000 block of North 36th Lane.
Agents from the Rio Grande Valley sector approached a home and encountered four men in a vehicle, according to a news release.
The vehicle, a black Ford F-150 pickup truck reversed and drove backwards in an attempt to hit an agent — the agent, in attempt to stop the vehicle fired his weapon an unknown amount of times, according to the release.
Moments later, just a block down the street at the intersection of 36th Street and Hummingbird Avenue, the pickup truck crashed into a tree — one suspect was detained by agents.
At the scene, Border Patrol agents were seen taking a Hispanic male wearing a black baseball cap into custody.
A second man was found and detained by McAllen police, who were on scene assisting agents, a few blocks north of the crash near a canal on Ware Road.
A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said she was outside her house with her daughter when she heard two shots fired coming from a corner house in the North McAllen neighborhood.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The FBI and local U.S. Customs and Border Protection internal affairs are investigating the incident.
Calls made to U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Oscar Saldaña went unanswered.
