U.S. soldiers are joining Mexican Federal Police on the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez border to help curb a drug war that has killed more than 1,000 people this year.

One thousand soldiers are being sent to the Texas-Mexico border to help control the latest outbreaks of violence by Mexican drug cartels.

The move is the latest by the U.S. Government to try to free citizens from daily assassinations, kidnappings and beheadings.

In the first 8 weeks of 2009, more than 1,000 people have been killed in the border drug war -- taxing Mexican morgues beyond capacity.

Drug cartels are now estimated to include more than 1,000 members.
