Cornyn says he'll keep pushing for funding

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn agrees that the federal government needs to do more to secure the border with Mexico because of ongoing violence.

Cornyn, R-Texas, made the statement Monday before he swore in Cameron County Judge Carlos H. Cascos to his second term.

The two officials spoke for about two hours before the ceremony, noting the need to improve border security in light of a significant increase in drug cartel violence over the past year.

[color=red][b]He said Mexican President Felipe Calderón is a friend and ally of the United States and that he has our government’s cooperation.

“We (the United States) would take our guidance from him and certainly not do anything that he did not request,â€
