N.C. faith leaders ask for fair treatment of immigrants

N.C. faith leaders ask for fair treatment of immigrants

Raleigh, N.C. — Religious leaders from across the state met Tuesday to call for legislative reforms that support fair treatment and protection of immigrants.

Rev. Cookie Santiago, director of Hispanic/Latino Ministries of the N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church, is among the nearly 1,000 people who have signed the North Carolina Religious Coalition for Justice's statement, condemning discrimination against immigrants.

The Raleigh resident, who was born to Puerto Rican parents in Massachusetts, says she sometimes gets treated differently because she is a Latina.

I stopped giving my money to church because they were giving it to illegals, and stopped going.

Yes, churches should help people truly in need, but these people were not in need. They were just taking clothing, toys and food, and driving off in a new pickup or SUV.

Maybe those church people get a warm and fuzzy feeling out of it, but it doesn't affect me that way.

When the Church uses belief to justify politics and use the church as a political ideal launching platform is disgusting and has no right to tax exempt status, among other harboring and abetting charges that need to be used against them!!!

But as everyone knows by now that the only people that get held accountable
for anything anymore is hard working tax paying citizens!

They aren't immigrants, they are illegal aliens. There's a difference. It's not me that confuses the difference. It is not me who confuses the difference between Mexicans and Puerto Ricans, or any of the other groups of people all bunched in as the "hispanics"...whether they are from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, or South America.

People do not dislike them based on their skin color and name, but on the general behavior that is so anti-American, anti-English, anti-law enforcment of any kind and refusal to make any effort to assimilate here but cause great division in every area they settle in.

Can Puerto Ricans be deported since they are...what, a province of this country? They don't need immigration papers to come here do they? I know Puerto Rico votes in our election but their votes are 1/2 a count.

I feel bad for those that don't behave like many illegals do.....not all whites or blacks behave the same either......but when you lump yourself in a special ethnic group and claim you all have like minds....what do you expect?

[quote]Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell has been under fire since his comments on the growing minority population in his county were published in The News & Observer newspaper in Raleigh. He called Mexicans "trashy" and said the growing Latino population in his county was "breeding like rabbits."

“On the way to take my child to school, she has to listen to radio programs where people are saying, 'We are trashy or that we reproduce like rabbits,'â€

There are no electoral votes for Puerto Rico in the U.S. presidential elections. Additionally, the Island is represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by an elected Resident Commissioner who votes at the Committee level but has no vote in the full House. Puerto Rico has no representation in the U.S. Senate.

I no longer give donations to my church. One charity I focus on giving to right now is Fisher House Foundation which is similar to Ronald McDonald House Charities and it provides lodging near military hospitals for spouses and families. I would rather help patriotic Americans who are serving our country than illegals who have no respect for our country. I also give money to charities supporting Ramos and Compean.

[b]The Elitist Politicians, their Elitist Contributors, BIG RELIGION, Big Labor, Chamber of Commerce, and Special Interest Groups consider United States citizens only as "UNITS of LABOR" and the sooner we become a Third World Country the better for their "BOTTOM LINE"! Our Elitist Politicians and their Elitist Political Contributors will not be happy until they transform the United States into a Third World Country for most of our citizens while furnishing the Chamber of Commerce and all their Elitist Special Interest Groups with their supply of “cheap laborâ€
