TX - Ranchland Owners Speak Out on Death Tolls

People going missing on ranch land

    POSTED: 11:18 PM CST Nov 27, 2015

    WESLACO -
In CHANNEL 5 NEWS Special Report: “Paying the Price,” we reported how a Honduran woman went missing on private ranch land in Brooks County.

Human rights activist Eddie Canales said the woman is one of hundreds who die in the brush. He said the biggest obstacle to finding remains of missing people is getting access to do searches on private property.

Landowners are speaking out about being associated with the number of people dying. The count of bodies found this year in Brooks County so far is 41.

“We just think the landowner shouldn’t take the blame on this,” Susan Kibbe said. She represents most of the landowners in Brooks County. She’s the director of the South Texas Property Rights Association.

Kibbe said the deaths that happen on the vast ranches are tragic, but property owners don’t deserve any blame.

“Somehow the U.S. is blamed for their deaths, or ranchers are blamed for their deaths, or others are blamed for their deaths,” Kibbe said. “When they know when they come into the country illegally, they’re taking this chance.”

A Honduran woman went missing on one of the largest ranches in south Texas. We tried to contact the landowners to get permission to be on the property. No one called back.

Kibbe said the owners called her after our report aired. She said Border Patrol and the local sheriff’s office have access to the property. No one else has the right to be there.

“So we really feel like the landowner is doing all they can that’s reasonable, that they know it’s law enforcement doing on their property,” she said.

Kibbe said people dying on ranches are not the biggest problem. “This is after the fact. This is a symptom of the overall issue,” she said.

The main issue Kibbe said is people in the country illegally are fleeing from their homelands. She said human rights activists should change their focus from the ranches to Central America.

“I think if they want to help these people, they need to go down and help them in their countries,” Kibbe said.

The South Texas Property Rights Association is calling on congress to secure the border, enforce current laws, reform immigration laws and create a guest worker program. Kibbe said those things will keep people from dying. Congress has that power, not landowners.

Landowners are not responsible. Illegal aliens are responsible. No one else. Their homes they're "fleeing" from in Mexico, Central America and South America, are in nice countries. Sure they may have some problems here and there, but you don't "flee" your own country because it has some problems. You stay there and work with your people to fix the problems. Honduras for example has a lower unemployment rate than the United States, as does Mexico and most Central American countries.

And all these human rights activists who want to help people from other countries, well, hiss boo on them. America has millions of people who need help, so help our own people. Other countries are fully capable of helping their own.

Truthfully, I'd say the Obama administration carries a lot of the blame too. Roll out the red carpet and they'll come.

As does the GW Bush administration and the Clinton Administration and the G H W Bush Administration and the Reagan Administration.

The bottom-line is these administrations all "rolled out the red carpet" because illegal aliens were already here, and they kept coming and coming and coming, but at the end of the day, there is no one to blame if they die in the back of a truck trailer or on ranchland, but themselves. It's time to put the blame where it belongs and that is on the people who choose to knowingly violate our laws and disrespect the American people by either sneaking into our country or refusing to leave when a visa expires to steal jobs, benefits, educations and tax dollars from American citizens.

For far too long, too many Americans have wanted to blame everyone but the illegal aliens themselves, and why they have wanted to do that I don't understand. They're treated like they somehow aren't responsible for their own actions, when they're totally responsible. People seem to think that if you're poor in another country you are above the law and deserve the "red carpet", yet God Forbid a poor American break a law, and you're thrown in the slammer for years if not gunned down in the streets first.

We've listened to their sob stories, day after day after day, and some people believe this tripe, with no verification, no reporting, no knowledge at all as to whether or not even one word of it is true. I know it's not true, not a word of it, because these people pay these coyotes thousands of dollars to sneak them in here, so if they're so "poor", where did they get that kind of money?

All these people are working for the cartels, the cartels are financing this disaster and getting their money back through the illegal drug business. That's where this money is coming from. They work by day and run drugs by night. They buy up police officers, mayors, commissioners, politicians. They organize these phony 501 C 3 tax fraud "charities" to advocate on their behalf. They steal jobs by undercutting the wages and promising their "employers' an endless supply of drugs and their cut of the drug business more than makes up for the lower wages, which is why they all have brand new F150's when Americans in that wage bracket can't even afford a good used car.

These are very cunning criminals who have buffooned a nation, one supposedly as smart as the United States, into kissing their butts instead of shipping them out and keeping them out.

Yes, all our federal administrations have shown nothing but pandering to illegal aliens, but that's all after the fact, after they're here. The problem itself however begins and ends with the illegal aliens themselves, whether entering illegally or refusing to leave when their visas expire, either way, it makes no difference, one is as bad as the other in my book. They're all guilty, and they're all totally responsible for the problems they alone cause to themselves as well as to others by their illegal actions. It's not their home countries fault, it's not our fault, it's not our government's fault, it's not even illegal employers fault, it's their fault, because they alone caused this problem when they entered illegally or refused to leave when they were supposed to, which is why all blame needs to be on them.

Our country is in a mess and we must take a hard-line on illegal immigration and that means a hard-line on the illegal aliens who cause it. They know what they're doing is wrong and wrong on so many levels. They know what they're doing to our country and our people, and they're laughing all the way to the bank while Americans lose jobs, hours, wages, educations, homes, tax dollars and face bleak if not destitute futures coupled with trillions and trillions of national debt.
