Utah Hotel Settles Case With Immigration Officials

Federal authorities say an upscale hotel chain has agreed to pay $2 million to settle allegations that 43 Utah employees working in the country illegally returned to work after they were flagged by an immigration audit and fired.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says midlevel and lower-level managers at Salt Lake City's Grand America Hotel formed temporary employment agencies to rehire the fired workers.

Prosecutors say 43 workers returned to their jobs within days using false names and documents.

Officials say four hotel managers involved have been fired. They say hotel executives were unaware of the scheme.

Messages left with Grand America Hotels and Resorts were not returned Wednesday.

The resort chain owns properties in Wyoming, Arizona, California, Idaho and Utah, including the Grand America, Salt Lake City's only five diamond hotel.

Inadequate. $10.000,000 might have permanently stopped them and sent a message to other hotels, this just stings without hurting too bad and does little to nothing to discourage others .
