Illegal immigration raises unemployment

The excuse to tolerate illegal immigration in America has disappeared faster than balances in a typical 401(k) account. Border security always has been about national defense and U.S. sovereignty. And now with concerns about the outbreak of swine flu in Mexico, perhaps even a health issue.

A report released today indicates that securing the border is now an economic imperative.

"Trends in Immigrant and Native Employment" by the Center for Immigration Studies, an independent research institute in Washington, D.C., that focuses on U.S. immigration, states that immigrants (legal and illegal) now have significantly higher unemployment than natives.

The study concluded that if the government would more vigorously enforce immigration laws over the next year, resulting in 1 million or 2 million illegals emigrating from the U.S., it could significantly improve the employment prospects for less-educated Americans.

Clearly, there is no crying need (was there ever?) for foreigners to do the work that American workers supposedly don't want to do. Many U.S. workers are desperate to find employment. It would be unconscionable for even one unemployed American to lose out on a job that was taken by someone who is not a U.S. citizen.

Unemployment is a big enough problem in our country. There's no reason to tolerate unemployed illegals compounding the misery.

Not to mention, it doesn't let the true unemployment numbers come out. It's alot more than they are reporting.

Unless you're union, and unless things have changed drastically, most agriculture and construction and restaurant work etc. doesn't get unemployment. They've never been a considered a guarenteed and steady business with secure employment. I know my ex did construction, and it was feast or famine and never a single unemployment check. I've done agriculture and restaurant work etc. and the cut in hours sends you looking for job because there's never guarenteed hours.
