    Where are the ICE raids?

It's past 4:00 here in the Chicago area, and I still haven't heard one damn thing about raids going on here today. Where are they?

They didn't do them around here today. I'm painting my signs in anticipation of them coming down this week around here. Then I'll run up to O'Hare for rush hour and piss a ton of idiots off. There's an article in the Sun Times or Tribune about these idiots who are working with this Mexican Alderman to DISRUPT ICE if they do raids in this ward. THAT'S A FEDERAL CRIME and I'm hoping they spend jail time in Federal prison if they're stupid enough to obstruct an ICE raid. The mentally ill people in the picture attached to the article are all white females. I'll try to post it later tonight.

Few ICE raids, but much-hyped plans stoke fears in immigrant communities

    Gwendolyn Wu and Dominic FracassaJuly 14, 2019 Updated: July 14, 2019 2:11 p.m.

A mass federal crackdown on undocumented immigrants did not materialize Sunday in San Francisco or the other nine cities expected to be targeted. There were only a few reports of actions in Florida, Chicago and New York City, and none in the Bay Area.

Federal officials altered their plans for sweeping, nationwide raids targeting people who have been ordered deported after news reports alerted immigrant communities on what to expect, multiple current and former Department of Homeland Security officials told the New York Times.

But the absence of reported raids Sunday did not allow immigrant advocates to lower their guards. Rev. Deborah Lee, executive director of Oakland-based Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, said leaders at dozens of Bay Area churches were relaying resources such as immigration hotlines to their congregations.

“In a way, I feel like we’ve been preparing for a raid as soon as the president was elected,” Lee said. “These threats from the president are designed to create panic and fear. If you’re going to raid people, why tell them three weeks in advance? He’s obviously doing this as a strategy to instill fear and put people back into the shadows. It’s a form of repression.”

Immigration policy scholars agreed, saying while the raid announcements can give advocates time to prepare, they also stoke fear within immigrant communities and households with mixed immigration statuses.

It’s “extremely unusual” for federal officials to say exactly when raids will take place, said Terri Givens, a Menlo Park-based political scientist and CEO of the Center for Higher Education Leadership. Givens said it’s possible that authorities are using it as a strategy to increase fear in those communities.

“If you read on Twitter ‘we’re going to go out and deport a million immigrants,’ and Customs and Border Protection comes back and says 2,000, well, no one hears that second point,” she said.
The crackdown is supposed to remove “millions” of people in the country illegally, President Trump said previously. That number is closer to 2,000 people with deportation orders, said Mark Morgan, who took over as acting chief of Customs and Border Protection on June 27 after serving as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Local immigration attorneys are monitoring the situation “24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” said Edwin Carmona-Cruz, a spokesperson for Pangea Legal Services, which represents immigrants in court proceedings.

Pangea Legal Services, along with the ACLU of Northern California, filed a pre-emptive lawsuit Thursday with the Northern District Court of California in San Francisco seeking a temporary order to ensure that ICE provides detainees with access to legal services.

U.S. District Judge James Donato denied the order, but noted that he “expects” immigration officials not to deport individuals until they have had time to speak with an attorney.

“The decision puts ICE on clear notice that it has an obligation to ensure due process and access to counsel, and should be prepared to document their compliance with this duty,” said Hamid Yazdan Panah, an immigration attorney and regional director of the Northern California Rapid Response and Immigrant Defense Network.

Blocking access to legal counsel could be a violation of due process rights, he said.

“This agency should already have rigorous policies in place to ensure access to counsel, but we have seen in practice that it does not,” added Yazdan Panah.

Paul Prince, a spokesman for the San Francisco ICE office, said officers make arrests “every day” and declined to give details about enforcement operations.
“ICE prioritizes the arrest and removal of unlawfully present aliens who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security. However, all of those in violation of the immigration laws may be subject to immigration arrest, detention and — if found removable by final order — removal from the United States,” Prince wrote in an emailed statement.

Local police agencies said they had not heard of any raids.

“We’re just as in the dark as everyone else,” said Sgt. Ray Kelly, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

    Planned immigration crackdowns
ordered last month were postponed after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked President Trump to call off the raids.

The raids planned to start this weekend are supposed to target those with final deportation orders. Advocates said they believe there could be “collateral arrests” of other undocumented immigrants, even those without final notices, if they’re found with the original targets.

“They’re not what the administration is saying they’re going to be picking up,” said Carmona-Cruz.

Some church congregations have hosted “bond fundraisers” that raise money to release people from immigration detention centers, Lee said.

The number of congregations working with the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity that have announced their status as sanctuary churches — opening their doors to undocumented immigrations and asylum-seekers — has grown from five in 2017 to more than 45, Lee said. She linked the rise directly to the president’s anti-immigrant rhetoric and actions.
Immigration officials have been using fear tactics to motivate immigrants to self-deport since the Obama administration and recent media reports about family separation and children locked in detention centers provide asylum-seekers recent examples of that, academics said.

“People are happy that these images in cages are getting out because they want to give immigrants the impression they aren’t welcome and what happens to them when they come,” Givens said.

Efforts to end local law enforcement contracts with ICE may have made it more difficult for federal officials to carry out mass operations, Carmona-Cruz said.

Nationwide this weekend, there were only a few reports of ICE actions in Florida, Chicago and New York City.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted Saturday that “attempted but reportedly unsuccessful” immigration raids were conducted in two New York neighborhoods.

Like de Blasio, the mayors of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose have vocally opposed the planned raids.

“We have been and will continue to be a sanctuary city, despite what we know are challenges that we continue to face from this administration in the White House,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed said outside City Hall on Friday.

California Sen. Kamala Harris criticized the raids on social media, tweeting that the threat of ICE raids could deter immigrants from seeking emergency aid.
“This makes everyone less safe,” Harris tweeted Sunday.

San Francisco city officials sought to reassure immigrants in English and Spanish they would respond to emergency calls regardless of immigration status.

“Please be comforted and reminded that if you call 911 we will come help and take care of your emergency without asking your immigration status,” the San Francisco Fire Department tweeted Saturday.

Protesters rallied this week at ICE’s San Francisco office, calling on the agency to “free the children” in custody at detention centers nationwide and criticizing planned raids.

A report issued Saturday by ICE officials noted that at least six individuals who had been previously arrested by local law enforcement agencies were issued detainers — requests to hold a person after his or her release date and transfer to federal detention — but have not been taken into ICE custody.

"According to government officials like Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, the raids will take place over multiple days. In Denver, Hancock anticipates the raids will end on July 18. Many communities are responding by providing information and assistance to their immigrant communities."

Part of the problem might be that it's Sunday and no a lot of media people working today.
MIGHT get some coverage Monday, IF there was anything to report.
These "RAIDS" are not going to be anything to see.
3 ICE agents walk up to the door and knock.
If no one opens the door they go get in their car and leave.
If the person they want opens the door for them they put the cuffs on them and walk them out to the car and leave.
This is not going to be like a SWAT TEAM raid.

The smart thing to do would be to sit out Sunday and Monday with no ICE activity at all and then Tuesday morning SURPRISE.

No sign of raids for those fearing ICE sweeps in Chicago

    By JESSICA VILLAGOMEZ
    | CHICAGO TRIBUNE |
    JUL 14, 2019 | 2:10 PM

On a sunny Sunday morning in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood, street vendors lined up while residents gathered in restaurants and biked along the streets. While the morning routine went on, rumors of looming immigration raids left the neighborhood tense and the streets much quieter than usual.

Ana Jimenez from Little Village, who was selling jewelry outside St. Agnes of Bohemia Catholic Church, said relatively few people attended Mass.

“Usually there are lines of people. On Sundays when there is church there are people everywhere. There’s not even sellers out today and usually there are more,” Jimenez said in Spanish.

Immigration advocates, who had braced for raids this weekend, said all was quiet — for now.

Officials from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights hadn’t gotten any reports of raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement through their hotline or network of community groups as of Sunday mid-morning.

Erin Cobb, president of the Chicago chapter for the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said she also has not been made aware of raids. “It doesn’t mean it isn’t happening,” Cobb said. “It could be happening on a smaller scale.”

Advocates said the threat continues as officials have said the sweeps will go through the coming week.

“It’s not about what happens this morning or what happens today. This administration has made it clear that they want to deport immigrants,” said Tara Tidwell Cullen from the National Immigrant Justice Center.

“This has been an opportunity for communities to come together and learn to understand what their rights are and be able to exercise their rights,” Cullen said.

Jimenez said several people had come up to her stand with concerns about the heavy police presence outside the church.

“I’m not scared because I have my business in order. I’m here to take away some of the worries people have. They’re coming up to me asking if the police out here are with immigration,” she said.

Police officers at St. Agnes said they were there as part of normal security procedures for the elected officials who were attending mass and an immigration march that was to follow.

Arturo Riviera from Pilsen, a vendor in Little Village, said the pace of the neighborhood was noticeably slower.

“There are usually more people running errands. Usually when I get in to set up I have a hard time parking, but there’s tons of spots,” Riviera said in Spanish.

As churchgoers exited St. Agnes Sunday morning, demonstrators marched down 26th Street in Little Village alongside Mayor Lori Lightfoot, U.S. Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García and Sen. Dick Durbin.

“We’re here to support our community. I know a lot of people here who stay in their homes because of tweets and threats," said Sandra Puebla, a demonstrator from Hermosa. “A lot of people are staying at home or missing work. Showing our support makes the community stronger,” she added.

Humberto Ortiz from Summit was spending the day with his family when he decided to join the demonstration.

“One doesn’t always just run into the mayor,” Ortiz said in Spanish. Ortiz said he was glad to see politicians take the threat of ICE raids seriously and that he hopes organizations could provide clarity.

“There’s a lot of fear and uncertainty because of a lack of information,” Ortiz said. “People terrorize themselves. We see police, and it can be scary if you don’t know what they’re here for, or people will say ICE is here but we don’t see it.”

Demonstrators held signs, wore blue buttons that said “You are my neighbor" and passed out small cards with immigration advocate hotline numbers.

Several Illinois politicians spoke to onlookers at a news conference near the famous Little Village arch after the march.

“The purpose of being here is to show unity and solidarity during this difficult time,” García said. “We believe that the future of America relies on our diversity and how we stand with each other during a time of need.”

Durbin urged demonstrators to stand along their neighbors. “We are on your side, we stand with you together,” he said.

Lightfoot emphasized the impact a raid could have on children in the community and urged the city to stand united in support.

“This city has to stand as a beacon of hope for everyone in our immigrant community,” Lightfoot said.

Lightfoot was met by cheers from the audience who called out “¡Sí se puede!” (“Yes, you can!”) She reiterated that Chicago police would not facilitate ICE raids or provide database information.

“The most powerful tool is not to remain silent,” Lightfoot said. “Those of us who have a voice we must use them, we must stand.”

Thousands of people, including immigrants and their supporters, rally against Trump's immigration policy, especially the detention of children, marching from Daley Plaza to the Chicago field office for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on July 13, 2019. (Abel Uribe / Chicago Tribune)

The enforcement campaign is expected weeks after President Donald Trump first tweeted about, then delayed, it. Reports had indicated it would target families who have received deportation orders, but on Friday, when Trump confirmed the raids were to begin this weekend, he said agents will focus on detaining people with criminal backgrounds. Trump has said such efforts will remove dangerous people from the country and serve as a deterrent for others who are considering migration to the U.S.

The sweeps could include so-called collateral detainment of other immigrants living in the country illegally who are present when agents show up.

Since the president first announced the large-scale raids on Twitter, advocacy groups have encouraged people to prepare themselves and know their rights. That includes taking photos and video recordings of any ICE activity in their home. Targeted parents are also being encouraged to have child care plans in place in case they are taken into custody.

If Trump's strategy is to instill fear, then he should go after the employers. If all employers are afraid to hire them, they will all self-deport voluntarily if they know they can't get a job because no one will hire them. It's actually very simple. Go after THE F**KIN EMPLOYERS!!!!

I'm actually not surprised. He lied to us so many times that I don't believe a word he says anymore.
