Two medical center staffers in San Bernardino County have been charged with assaulting a federal officer and conspiracy to obstruct immigration enforcement, marking a serious federal investigation.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on July 8, 2025, when ICE agents were pursuing an individual into the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center during a roving operation in Ontario.

The defendants, Jose de Jesus Ortega, 38, of Highland, and Danielle Nadine Davila, 33, of Corona, allegedly interfered with the arrest as the individual fled into the clinic. Davila reportedly wedged herself between the ICE officer and the suspect, pushing the officer and shouting “Let him go!” and “Get out!”, while Ortega grabbed the officer’s arm and vest. Ortega was arrested and released on a $10,000 bond, and Davila surrendered later the same day.

Prosecutors say that the man was not a patient but ran into the center seeking cover. The pair’s actions allegedly prevented federal officers from carrying out their duties. If convicted, each faces up to eight years on the assault charge and six years on the conspiracy count.
