1 Million+ a year is quite enough.......In fact, more "generous" than the rest of the world COMBINED.

I was at that rally and I really don't think that is what he said. His point was that if our economy was strong and we had true free trade agreements we wouldn't have to feel threatened when legal immigrants come to this country. They wouldn't be taking our jobs. They would be in a position to contribute to the country not take away. I really don't think it is immigration this country has a problem with. It is when they come here and expect something for nothing. We CAN be enriched by SOME immigrants as long as they are legal and they don't have third world standards. We need to close our borders, cut back on immigrants period. When our country is back on track then we can let immigrants come when labour demands it. No more no less.

I don't see anything wrong with what Paul said. He pointed out what is wrong with our current illegal immigration system and he said if our economy was on track... them we could be more generous with immigration.

I don't disagree with that and he's not talking necessarily about immigrants. He could also mean temporary workers.

The reality is that we are overrun by illegal aliens and their families and our economy just doesn't need all those non-working family members which are needy and social system dependent. A invited worker is one thing and an illegal alien family is another.

However, if our economy was healthy, we could increase the visa cap.

BUT! The visa system needs to be improved so we can punish and remove the overstays.

I guess I should say that not what he said but what he meant.

It sounded hypothetical to me. He began that sentence with the word if.

Honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with out current immigration system other than a failure to enforce our written immigration laws and pandering politicians that want to appease corporate America. I can see no circumstance that would justify an expansion of immigration beyond what we already have. Personally, I think it's time to reduce immigration (all immigration) and assimiliate the legal immigrants that are already here and give attrition through enforcement a chance to work.

I don't think the country is feeling threatened by legal immigrants (even though I personally think it should be reduced), it's the illegal ones that are the problem. As for trade, I prefer fair trade over free trade. So-called free trade is the biggest contributor to the job outsourcing we're currently experiencing. For example, NAFTA is a free trade agreement, and so is CAFTA. Could you please define "true free trade" for me? You can use Ron Paul's definition of you like.
