Online Poll results: Paul, Tancredo tops latest round
Republicans lead third round of presidential poll

Republican contenders topped Round Three of The Baxter Bulletin Online Poll of potential 2008 presidential candidates. For the first time, there were no online comments offered for any of those on the survey.

Choices in the third round included Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and Rep. Ron Tancredo of Colorado among the Republicans; Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and former Sen. Mike Gravel of Alaska among the Democrats; and George Phillies of Massachusetts and Doug Stanhope of Arizona from the Libertarian Party.



Paul and Tancredo, respectively, led the poll with Phillies placing third.

A total of 337 votes were cast in the poll. The results were:

• Paul (R), 32.5 percent

• Tancredo (R), 22 percent

• Phillies (L), 21.4 percent

• Dodd (D), 15.4 percent

• Stanhope (L), 8 percent

• Gravel (D), 1.8 percent

In the first round of the presidential poll, the finish order was Sen. Hillary Clinton (D), Sen. Barack Obama (D), Sen. John McCain (R), former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani (R), former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) and former senator John Edwards (D).

In the second round, the finish order was New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R), Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware (D), Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas (R), Libertarian Party contender Christine Smith of Colorado and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson (R).

There is to be one more round of potential presidential contenders, which will be followed by a final, overall presidential poll featuring the top vote-getters of the previous polls as well as a “none of the above” option.
