Thread: 13 killed and 30 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood, UPDATED

Update at 6:57 p.m. ET:

Fort Hood officials are asking that family members trying to reach their loved ones should send a text message instead of calling, because phone circuits are overloaded.

The dead included the shooter and one civilian, Gary Tallman, an Army spokesman at the Pentagon, said.

Just my thoughts - I wonder how many deaths might occur on military bases or within the military, if those following Islam in the most extreme way, decide that a massive attack is needed to harm the United States? How long will politically correct be allowed, or profiling be excluded, till we look at this possibility more seriously?

This may be an isolated incident, and have nothing to do with this specific shooting, but by allowing more people who hate us to infiltrate our military, and our government, short and long term plans to harm us can be implemented. This gentleman supposedly made comments that we should not be in Iraq.

Update at 7:30 p.m. ET:

The death toll has risen to 13, KCEN-TV is reporting. The victim died in a local hospital.

Meanwhile, the Associated Press is correcting the gunman's name to Nidal Malik Hasan. AP also says that two soldiers who were detained have been released.

Update at 7:13 p.m. ET: AP reports that Hasan received a poor performance evaluation for his work at Walter Reed, where he worked for six years before being transferred to For Hood in July, according to officials who spoke anonymously. He was born in Virginia, was single and had no children.

Hasan graduated from Virginia Tech University in 1997, and in 2001 received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, in Bethesda, Md. He did his intership, residency and fellowship at Walter Reed.

Update at 7:08 p.m. ET:
CNN reports that Hasan was 39, licensed in Virginia and had worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood.

Besides Hasan, the dead include 10 soldiers and a civilan police officer working on the base as a contractor.

From what I understand he had been deployed several times and had PTSD, and had been complaining that he did not want to be deployed again. I think he lost it totally and took his men out with him. VERY SAD!!!!

I read hes never been deployed has spent most of his time in school or ' helping ' our poor streesed troops.

No wonder how many he in-directly killed with his 'care'.

FOX News interviewed Col. Terry Lee, who worked with Hasan. Here are some excerpts Fox provided:

"He said, 'Maybe the Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor." At first we thought he was talking about how Muslims should stand up and help the armed forces in Iraq and in Afghanistan, but apparently that wasn't the case."

"He would make comments to other individuals about how we should not be in the war in the first place… He made those comments and he stuck strongly to his faith, but, as soldiers we have a duty to follow orders from our commander in chief and our political views are set aside."

"He was hoping that President Obama would pull troops out. ... When things weren't going that way he became more agitated, more frustrated with the conflicts over there. ... He made his views well known about how he felt about the US involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan."

This really upsets me so i have to be careful what I write .

A soldier just on talk radio said they have to live and work with them in war zones and they are always worried about their backs . Wwhat fool fighting a theorcratic cult recruits them into their military . If you said, the ones we've had ' serving ' us for past 60 years your right !!!!

The last president we had from my understanding and study was Eisenhower . he knew how to treat invaders of all kinds ' far as I know ".
