Latest estimate of fatalities: 22, many more injured.
Information about gunman still sketchy: 1 single male suggested so far, and is believed to be dead. Campus now believed to be secure.

In my rush to put this thread up, I did a quick hack job admittedly (sorry, W, and all else).

I've been gleaning the latest updates directly from cable news (CNN, Fox) - and that is the source of my posted updates above.

It looks like 21 confirmed fatalities so far, with another 20+ injured as well as of 9:35am Pacific / 12:35pm Eastern

ABC just reported 22 dead including shooter. As many as 20-22 injured. Two separate shootings: 1 at 7:15am in a dorm & the other 2 hrs later in the Engineering Bldg.

I know a professor teaching there.

OMG! And I haven't even turned the TV on yet......I guess I better! How horrible

Cnn says that one of the gunman was killed, numbers are different on channels as to how many were killed. This is a horrendous tragedy which is altogether becoming more frequent. How do these people get into these schools with guns?

Some conflicting information about the shooters.

Last info that I heard was that the shooter at the dorm in the morning was killed there at the site. And that the shootings at the Engineering building was not that same shooter. I saw a photo of an Asian looking man held down on ground being arrested. I beleive there were two shooters. Not known yet if the two incidents are connected..

My God, the devastation. The human loss. Those poor people and their poor poor families.

My office is in the administrative building of a major western university, beset by controversy in the past. We've been nervous on occasion. My youngest son is a student here. As a parent, I can only imagine the agony of those who've lost loved ones today. When Columbine erupted, they had the parents meet in a nearby elementary school where I'd done computer tech support. My daughter was a block away when those shootings happened, and both my oldest had attended forensic competitions at Columbine in the past. I'd had to bring my son some money, I walked into THAT cafeteria and past some kids in black clothing and dusters. Columbine is in an extremely affluent, beautiful green suburban area. So little stands between us and someone's ill intent.
