China's tariff hikes: Here are the U.S. products getting hit

    April 2, 2018, 11:38 AM

China is placing new tariffs on 128 products bought from the U.S. as retaliation against taxes approved by President Trump on imported steel and aluminum.

The new tariffs will go into effect today, April 2, the Chinese finance ministry said in a statement. The announcement follows through on warnings Chinese officials have made for several weeks in an escalating trade dispute with the United States.

China's Customs Tariff Commission is increasing the tariff rate on eight imported U.S. products, including pork, by 25 percent. It's also imposing a new 15 percent tariff on 120 imported U.S. commodities, including fruits.

The tariffs mirror Mr. Trump's 25 percent charge on imported steel and 15 percent hike on aluminum. Mr. Trump's tariffs are partly a response to complaints that Beijing steals or pressures foreign companies to hand over technology.

Below are some of the products that will face tariffs from China:

    25 PERCENT TARIFFS

Most goods targeted for 25 percent tariffs are varieties of pork, for which China is the No. 3 American export market.

    — PORK

Fresh and chilled bone-in pork forelegs and hind legs, chilled whole and half hog heads, pork liver, chopped pork, other fresh and chilled pork

    — ALUMINUM

    Scrap aluminum

    15 PERCENT TARIFFS

Chinese regulators also imposed 15 percent duties on apples, almonds and dozens of types of fruit

    — FRUIT

Apples, fresh or dried; coconut, fresh and dried; bananas, fresh or dried; pineapple; pomegranates; mangos; grapefruit; grapes; watermelon; cherries; strawberries; dried apricots

    — NUTS

Brazil nuts, cashews, almond kernels, walnuts, macadamia nuts, pine nuts

    — WINE

    Sparkling wine

    — HERBS

    Ginseng

    — PIPES

Stainless steel and alloy pipe used for petroleum or natural gas, multiple diameters

Sell those products to other countries.

Venezuela has no food...give up some oil and buy the food.

Give Venezuela nothing...broker a deal...they buy the food!!!

If we're selling pork to China, maybe we're producing too much of it. The excessive amounts of waste produced by large swine operations does have negative consequences on our environment.

Interestingly, a China company owns Smithfield Foods which was the largest pork producer in the United States when it was sold several years back to Shuanghui
(I assume it still is). China consumes somewhere in the neighborhood of half the world's pork. With that said, is China going to place a tariff on pork produced by one of their own companies?

I don't know why we don't match them tariff for tariff! We tariff their imported cars at about 2%, they tariff ours at 30%. So we raise ours to 30% on their cars. American companies competing with them would win.

Too bad china does not engage in plant based foods as does India with their =overpopulation. Actually better for heath overall as proven when the nazis took all livestock from northern occupied Europe and the people had NO heart attacks and strokes.

Read NC has 9million people and 9million pigs inhumanely raised, polluting lands, waters - oh that is for CHINA'S TABLE???

USA comprehend china wants to pollute our waters and lands to feed their overpopulaton of people.

Korea, vietnam would rather eat DOGS, especially if they are brutally beaten and skinned alive. - REALITY. PREFER OVER PORK!!!

A PIG IS SMARTER THAN A DOG OR HORSE - A PIG CAN PLAY VIDEO GAMES AND THE FEMALE HOGS ARE KEPT IN CAGES WHERE THEY CANNOT MOVE. WHEN READY TO DELIVER THEY ARE KICKED DOWN THE HALL TO A BIRTHING ROOM AND PIGLETS TAKEN IMMEDIATELY - ALL FOR CHINA?????

You want to eat pork chops, bacon - go catch yourself some wild hog - seriously doubt that you could due to their intelligence and aggressiveness.

We rarely eat pork, not good for you. I have bacon maybe twice a year, never pork chops, pork roast or any of that.
