Cops ease rules on tattoos, turbans, beards

NEW YORK (AP) Police departments are relaxing traditional grooming standards and getting away from rules that used to require a uniformly clean-shaven, 1950s look.

That's because there's a national hiring crisis and departments are seeking a more diverse applicant pool.

That means more officers are on the job with tattoos inked on their forearms, beards on their chins or religious head coverings like hijabs and turbans in place of - or tucked beneath - their blue caps.

Muslim New York Police Officer Masood Syed filed a lawsuit last year after he was suspended for having a long beard. The department changed its policy as a result.

So strange. How could you take a police officer with a police cap on top of his turban seriously??!!!

Another Pandora's Box that should NOT be opened. Now they want to deviate from our Military Uniform. NO NO NO

See, they are not happy here. Our country does not suit them. They need to pack up the prayer rugs and turbans and migrate or migrate back to a country that's into wearing your religion on your head and carrying it in a roll on your back. We're not into that. We're workers and warriors and that gig just doesn't work in our country.

They're demanding 5 breaks a day to pray at work. Honestly? You won't get anything done with 5 prayer breaks a day at work, plus lunch plus pee breaks. Holy Cow. I guess they'll need lockers to secure their rugs and stuff. What if their turban falls off into the pot at the chocolate factory?

What if their beards get caught in the handcuffs when they're on the ground making an arrest? Their face will be stuck in someone's butt until another officer comes to aid them. People will be watching, laughing. What if another cohort criminal comes along and your head is stuck in someone's handcuffs? How do you defend yourself when you can't even look up or look around? And you know in fights and stuff, they'll be pulling on that beard, that would be first thing I'd go for. Pull right and you could break a cop's neck.

NYPD is in serious trouble.

You can not let "new hires" who don't know what they're doing or going to do set the rules.
