    Mormons at a glance
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in 19th century America and has over 12 million members world-wide.

Mormonism has been present in the UK since 1837 and has currently 190,000 members.

The church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or The Church of Jesus Christ.

Mormons believe their church is a restoration of the Church as conceived by Jesus and that the other Christian churches have gone astray.
The church was founded by Joseph Smith (1805 – 1844).

It was then developed by Brigham Young who migrated with the new Mormons to Salt Lake City in 1847.

Mormons believe that God has a physical body, is married, and can have children.

They also believe that humans can become gods in the afterlife.
Mormons are strongly focused on traditional family life and values.

They oppose abortion, homosesxuality, unmarried sexual acts, pornography, gambling, tobacco, consuming alcohol, tea, coffee, and the use of drugs.

One of the more common misconceptions is that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints advocates polygamy. However, this was discontinued over a century ago and the Church excommunicates anyone who practices it.

As I am Baptist and had many questions myself about what are Mormons' beliefs, I'd thought I'd try and help by doing just a small amount of research.

I posted this in case any one has any questions.
If some one feels it to be inappropriate please PM me and we will try and work it out. If it can't be worked out then we will take it down.

My paternal grandparents were Latter Day Saints/Mormons. I lived with them for years after my mother died and regularly went with them to church and other church related functions. I do not remember anything about the Mormons believing that God was a human, married and had children. Of course as a young child I didn't pay much attention while in church, but I did pay very close attention to what my grandparents taught me, which was nothing close to the above definition of Mormon beliefs regarding God. In fact, my Mormon grandparents' teachings closely resembeled Baptist teachings with a bit of Jehova's Witness sprinkled in. I suppose, like all religious denominations, Mormons believe theirs is THE true religion....which is why I only trust God and His word. No competition, no contradiction.

With the Huckster thinking he is going to win this election, Mormanism is the last thing on my mind. I don't know why this keeps popping up in so many threads. Is this the basis on which we are to vote? I don't think so. In fact, it is not even a consideration to me.

Guiliani is now going to be pushing hard......as he indicated in several interviews tonight.

What year are we going to get together on a candidate??????

Some good info on Mormons here--
    http://www.bpnews.net/BPSearch.asp?s...imageField.y=7

The main thing is that Mormons don't believe that Christ is fully man AND fully God, and they claim Satan is His brother. They have more faith in their feelings than in the Word of God.

CitizenJustice, this thread IS "Other Topics" and it is a concern for some of us. I do NOT want to vote for Romney as I think he is DEEP in the global/New World Order stuff. That is my main objection to him, not his Mormonism, although that does concern me somewhat.

Actually, I agree. Romney's Mormonism should not be an issue. I don't understand why it is for so many. Now, if he were a Muslim ...... THAT'S an issue!!!
But I'm not voting for him either way, so...
