Ann Carrizales tries to control her emotions as Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella speaks about the former Marine Corps military police officer.

A Stafford police officer who was wounded last year in a shooting will attend the State of the Union address Tuesday as a guest of a U.S. Representative from Houston.

Ann Carrizales, a 40-year-old former Marine, was shot in the face and chest after pulling over three men on Oct. 26, 2013, at about 3:30 a.m.

She stopped the four-door Nissan in the 12700 block of Murphy as it idled at a green light with a blinking turn signal.

One of the men began shooting at Carrizales and the car took off. She returned fire then chased the car in her police cruiser for several miles. When the car stopped, the men ran.

The suspected shooter, 21-year-old Sergio Francisco Rodriguez, was arrested minutes after the shooting.

The other two men, Fredy De Leon-Henriquez, 28, and Daniel Cruz were also later arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Carrizales will attend the Presidential address as the guest of Rep. Pete Olson, R-Sugar Land.

Olsen has paid tribute to Carrizales on the House floor and delivered a congressional commendation to her in person at his Sugar Land office.
